The Coronavirus Big Vision is passing

It was a big and pervasive vision for a while, but it is passing on as quickly as it arrived. The Big Vision surrounding combating Coronavirus that had embraced much of the world is now being replaced with lots of competing smaller visions. In the US the lockdowns in various states are letting up and other news events such as climate change and the spectacular George Floyd murder and following protests are displacing the Coronavirus Big Vision as the center of community interest. It was big while it lasted, but it is moving on as fast as it moved in.

Market bubbles and exciting events

A stock market bubble pops when the exciting social and economic event causing it transforms into a no longer exciting non-event. The Hong Kong Turnover happened, became history, and then the Asian Flu downturn started. The excitement over Y2K ended, and then the Dotcom Bust started. I was predicting that Brexit would follow this pattern, but the deadline for the exit became messy and before the end happened it was superseded by the much bigger Coronavirus Panic -- no bubble pop.

So, when will the Coronavirus Bubble pop?

This is much harder to call because when the Coronavirus Panic will end is going to be much harder to call. It will end, someday, but defining when and how is not something easy to predict. This means that predicting when the bubble will pop is not going to be easy, either. In fact, in this case the two may reverse themselves -- the bubble popping may indicate the panic is no longer an exciting event.

-- The End --
