A benefit of mortality to a species is that it lets the species genome change, and with those changes can come improvements. If species members don't live and die, evolution can't happen.
How does having head hair turn gray with old age help humans survive?
One of my insights is that because of "survival of the fittest" evolution is intensely practical. Because hair graying with old age is consistent among humans, it must somehow be helping humans survive.
How it is helping is currently a mystery to me.
