Thoughts on
"International Relations"
by Jon Pevehouse and Joshua Goldstein

by Roger Bourke White Jr., copyright October 2018

Review

This textbook does a good job of going through the jargon and describing the relations of the many styles of organizations that are involved in international relations. One example of a surprise in jargon is that "realists" are people with a nation-centric viewpoint, the viewpoint has nothing to do with being practical or relating well to hard facts.

The book describes well the many organizations that effect how nations relate -- organizations such as the UN, NGO's, and MNO's (businesses, another example of jargon). International relations is a large and complex area of human endeavor so they have done a good job in keeping their descriptions relatively brief.

This briefness means they haven't done much with history, and they haven't done much with my favorite topic: how changing technology changes how humans live and relate to each other.

But the value of staying brief is strong, so I forgive. They have done a good job.
