Chapter Two: The call

The suspense is delicious! Will I get a call? Who will come? If I don't get a call, have I covered my tracks well enough? If I do get a call, will it be a trap? -- there are cops and boyfriends... either would be flies in this ointment.

It isn't even three when the cell phone rings -- another excellent sign. I'm voting for it being one of the Orientals on the other end of the line. They are the most obedient....

"Hello." I say. It's all I can do to keep a neutral tone. My heart wants me to be shouting "Whoopee!!"

"Hello, this is Caroline. What do you want me to do?"

Caroline! I didn't pick her for being first. I didn't think she was that into guys.

"There is a park in Saunterville, Horseshoe Lake Park. Are you familiar with it?"

"Saunterville? An hour from here?"

"The very one. Horseshoe Lake Park is between North Park and South Park east of Grant Road. Have one of your sisters drop you off there. Don't leave a car; I'll drop you off at the house when we are done. Bring an overnight bag with a change of clothes, casual ones. Wear your work clothes; sit in the covered picnic bench area with your cell phone, and I'll pick you up there."

"My work clothes?"

"You look very attractive in that long beige skirt and black top." I say.

"Oh... Those work clothes... You know where I work?... I guess that's not so surprising, is it." she sighs.

"Any questions?"

"How will I know you?"

"I'll call you on your cell phone. See you at midnight. Do be rested, and don't be late."

I hang up. I jump up in the air a couple times. "Hot Doggies!" I hustle to make final arrangements for tonight's hot date.
